The holding has been investing for over 20 years and manages a portfolio of companies across several industries, including manufacturing, industrials, energy and IT infrastructure. They invest with longer-term horizons and therefore place a heavy emphasis on operational excellence and strategic value creation.

The role of the Operations Manager will mean being the strategic 'sparring partner' to the portfolio companies, providing on-site support for operational challenges, performance reporting, supervisory board meetings and M&A support, amongst other tasks.

THE ROLE:

The main responsibilities include:

  • Ongoing on-site support of portfolio companies as a reliable partner for all operational and strategic issues

  • Development and presentation of strategic concepts, investment decisions and other decision templates

  • Preparation of industry and company analyses, ongoing monitoring of relevant market trends and competitive environments

  • Support in the context of M&A processes, e.g. in the form of company analyses and valuations, as well as in the selection of personnel

  • Support in the preparation of supervisory board meetings and annual general meetings

  • Independently identifying the need for action in the portfolio companies and setting up projects for continuous improvement

  • Taking on specific project and project management tasks in close coordination with the respective management teams, e.g. in connection with operational customer projects of strategic relevance (commercial support, project controlling & reporting), design and management of organisational improvement measures or other internal projects or workstreams and corporate acquisitions and post-merger integration processes

  • Monitoring of the financial performance of the portfolio companies, organisational and personnel-related topics, and supervision of business processes through active dialogue with the management team of the portfolio companies

THE REQUIREMENTS:
  • A native German speaker

  • A background in management consulting or experience in operational (management) roles, ideally in an environment characterised by medium-sized companies (backed by private equity and/or venture capital)

  • Experience in the design and implementation of (transformation) projects, ideally several years of experience in a top-tier strategy consultancy or corporate development

  • A university degree in business, natural or engineering sciences

  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills combined with a pronounced ‘hands-on’ mentality when dealing with medium-sized companies, a down-to-earth attitude and tact when dealing with managers and employees

  • Strong affinity for numbers, high cost awareness, strength of implementation and strong communication skills

This is a role which would value a hands-on approach and would suit a strategic thinker excited by an entrepreneurial environment.
